This is the question we now get in almost every first conversation, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a pitch.

Will an AI assistant fix my spreadsheet problems?

It will fix one of them, and it is not the one hurting you.

An AI reading your spreadsheet is a read path. Point a model at your inventory workbook and it will answer questions about it, summarise it, and flag anomalies you would have missed. That is genuinely useful and it is cheap. We wrote about what that looks like for a small business.

Now look back at the six problems listed above. Version conflicts, data falling out of sync, formulas breaking, no access control, scale limits, accumulating complexity. Every one of them is a write-side problem. They happen at the moment somebody changes something. An assistant that reads your file does not enforce a validation rule, does not stop two people editing two copies, and does not notice that the formula in F47 was deleted last Tuesday.
